Reading Group 7-21, 6:30pm

After a blogging hiatus I would like announce our next reading group.
It will be a new type for us: a reading-listening-score-study session, which isn't as scary as it sounds, but should be fascinating.

We will be listening to the following pieces with scores:

György Kurtág, Officium Breve
Alfred Schnittke, String Quartet No. 3

Accompanying these will be the following two short articles:
Alan E. Williams, "Kurtág, Modernity, Modernisms," Contemporary Music Review 20, nos. 2/3, (2001), 51-69.
Alfred Schnittke, "Polystylistic Tendencies in Modern Music" in A Schnittke Reader, Alexander Ivashkin, ed. (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2002), 87-90.

The readings, scores and sound files will be available here:

https://sites.google.com/site/uwgamsa/reading-group-files

Also on the agenda will be discussing a proposed concert series involving composers, performers and musicologists/theorists, etc.
The general idea will be to present new music in a format that is informative and accessible. So please come with ideas to help us get started.

When: Wed, 21 July, 6:30pm
Where: Barriques Coffee Trader, 147 W. Washington
